Residents living along the Tiruchi-Thanjavur National Highway in Trichy, have announced a boycott of the upcoming Assembly election as a protest against the continued neglect of their demand for service lanes between Palpannai and Thavakudi. The Trichy-Palpannai-Thuvakudi Service Road Meetpu Kootamaippu federation claims that political parties have made promises on building these lanes but failed to act after coming into power, leading to numerous accidents and deaths. They regret having to resort to this action despite wanting a high voter turnout in the election.
