
ECI asks NIA to probe Malda violence
The Election Commission of India (ECI) requested the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate the violence in Malda district, West Bengal where seven judicial officers were held hostage by a mob. The Supreme Court had previously directed the commission to entrust the investigation to an independent agency. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that there was a plot to incite violence and impose President’s rule in the state.
