55,000 households use Census self-enumeration portal on day one
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the first to use the online self-enumeration portal for the 2027 Population Census in eight States and Union Territories. The portal, which launched on April 1, 2026, allows households to provide information about their housing conditions and assets before enumerators visit. The first phase of the census, focusing on house listing operations and housing census (HLO), will run until May 15th in these areas. Data collected through self-enumeration is confidential and will be used for evidence-based planning and policy formulation.
