Former Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and ex-home minister Ramesh Lekhak were arrested on Saturday in connection with a culpable homicide case linked to the September Gen Z protests. The arrests followed a formal complaint filed by the home ministry, leading to an investigation and arrest warrants issued. A commission led by former Special Court judge Gauri Bahadur Karki recommended charges of criminal negligence against Oli, Lekhak, and then Inspector General of Police Chandra Kuber Khapung, citing a failure to act on intelligence warnings about potential escalation. The arrests were carried out following consultations between senior government officials, including Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha and Law Secretary Parashwor Dhungana, and security chiefs.
