Congress registers strong performance in Phase-1 of Sarpanch polls; BRS resilient, BJP struggles
Congress-backed candidates dominated the first phase of the Telangana Panchayat elections, winning in nearly 2,000 villages. BRS-supported candidates also performed well, securing wins in about 800 villages. The BJP struggled to make an impact, winning only around 150 villages. Voter turnout was high at 84.28%, with over 45 million votes cast. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud attributed the victory to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's governance and claimed Congress candidates had won nearly 90% of the seats declared so far. The BRS maintained that their performance was impressive despite alleged threats from the ruling party.
