T.N. election 2026: Kurinjipadi constituency voters want non-polluting, agro-based industrial boost
M.R.K. Panneerselvam, a DMK strongman and Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, is seeking his seventh consecutive victory in the Kurinjipadi Assembly constituency on April 23rd. The seat has been held by DMK since 1962, with Panneerselvam having won five times since 1996. The AIADMK has also held the seat previously, but the DMK is facing competition from the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) headed by T. Velmurugan. The constituency faces challenges such as declining handloom production and environmental concerns due to its proximity to Neyveli. Panneerselvam's campaign focuses on highlighting past achievements, including desilting projects and flood prevention measures, while also promising support for agriculture and allied industries.
