Himanta, Assam BJP chief Dilip Saikia reach out to leaders threatening to contest as Independents
Several sitting MLAs and aspirants in Assam have threatened to contest as Independents after being denied BJP tickets for the upcoming assembly elections. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, and Dilip Saikia, State party chief, are attempting to appease these disgruntled leaders. Jayanta Das, a senior party leader who was a probable candidate in Dispur, has publicly accused Sarma of making the party a "Congress BJP" by bringing in his close associates. Other veteran leaders like Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, and Atul Bora have also expressed discontent over their denial of tickets. The BJP claims that these decisions are based on the delimitation exercise of 2023 and prioritizes fresh blood who worked hard for the party's growth at the grassroots level.
