Ex-FBI director Robert Mueller, who led Trump-Russia probe as special counsel, dies at 81
Robert Mueller, former FBI director and special counsel who led the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US election, has died at age 81. Mueller served as FBI director for 12 years under George W Bush and Barack Obama. He investigated numerous contacts between Trump associates and Russian officials, but did not establish a criminal conspiracy between the campaign and Russia. The investigation resulted in charges against 37 individuals and entities, including several of Trump's associates. Mueller also played a key role in other high-profile investigations, including those into the Lockerbie bombing and the prosecution of Manuel Noriega and John Gotti.
