EC forms 19 appellate tribunals in West Bengal for appeals on electoral rolls

The Election Commission of India (EC) has established 19 Appellate Tribunals in West Bengal to address disputed voter registration appeals. The tribunals, led by former judges, will handle over 60 lakh cases that were rejected by judicial officers during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. This move comes amid concerns about pending adjudication cases and potential disenfranchisement of voters before the upcoming Assembly elections on April 23 and 29. The EC has also received a Supreme Court order to use former judges in these tribunals, but no supplementary voter lists have been published despite the completion of the final list on February 28.
