Mirwaiz ‘barred’ from Friday prayers at Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Kashmir chief cleric, was barred from praying at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar due to heightened tensions stemming from the Iran-U.S. war. Farooq stated that he was placed under house arrest and prevented from delivering his weekly sermon. Several regional leaders, including Farooq Abdullah, attended congregational prayers in Srinagar. Mehbooba Mufti, the Peoples Democratic Party president, expressed concern over rising violence against Muslims in New Delhi and urged the Prime Minister and Home Minister to intervene.
