Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: The Left grapples with shifting loyalties
In Kerala, several former legislators are shifting their allegiances to rival political parties and contesting elections against their former comrades. Aisha Potty, a three-time CPI(M) MLA from Kottarakara, joined the Congress after leaving the party in January. R. Resmi, the general secretary of Mahila Congress, switched to the BJP after realizing the Congress would prefer Ms. Potty over her in the 2026 polls. S. Rajendran, a CPI(M) representative from Devikulam, also joined the BJP in January. The BJP has fielded these former legislators as candidates for their respective constituencies.
