Kerala Assembly polls 2026 | protest builds against Ramya Haridas’ reported candidature in Chirayinkeezhu constituency
Congress workers in Thiruvananthapuram have voiced strong opposition to the reported decision to field Ramya Haridas, a former MP from Kozhikode, as their candidate for the Chirayinkeezhu Assembly constituency. The protesters argue that an "outsider" should not be imposed on the constituency and demand a local candidate be considered instead. They claim 11 out of 14 'mandalam' committee presidents and three District Congress Committee (DCC) general secretaries have formally registered their protest against Haridas. The protesters also emphasized the significance of local representation, particularly considering Chirayinkeezhu is a Scheduled Caste (SC) reserved constituency with a large Dalit population. They argue that neglecting this representation could negatively impact the party's electoral prospects.
