Opposition parties trying to derail SIR to meet political objectives, says BJP leader Madhav

P.V.N. Madhav, BJP State president, stated that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been in place since 2002, occurring during the Congress-led UPA regime. He argued that opposition parties' concerns about the process were politically motivated and their attempts to detail it would be ineffective. Madhav explained that SIR aims to reconcile voter lists transparently. He noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed these concerns on the floor of the Lok Sabha, and the Election Commission of India (ECI) completed it in four states, paving the way for its commencement in 22 states on April 1st. The workshop, organized by the BJP, saw presentations from Shrikant Sharma, MLA from Mathura constituency in Uttar Pradesh, and Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy, workshop convener and MLA from Andhra Pradesh. They discussed the extensive debate surrounding SIR in Parliament, highlighting that while Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders raised doubts, they continued to raise objections for political reasons. Ramakrishna Reddy also addressed concerns about the deletion of names of infiltrators from voter lists in West Bengal, which was a point of contention with Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister. Several other speakers, including Y. Satya Kumar, Daggubati Purandheswari, Somu Veerraju, and Pothula Sunitha, along with P. Vishnu Kumar Raju and Lanka Dinakar, the 20-Point Programme Chairman, also participated in the workshop.
