Gateway to the world, from Madurai

The Madurai airport has finally achieved international status, marking a significant milestone for the region. After years of campaigning, the Union Cabinet approved the proposal on March 10th, paving the way for increased connectivity to destinations like Singapore, Malaysia, and Dubai. The move comes after several years of efforts by local leaders and residents who sought to enhance Madurai's international appeal. The airport has seen a surge in passenger traffic, prompting upgrades to its facilities and infrastructure. While Air India Express previously offered flights to Singapore, the service was discontinued. Now, the focus is on expanding international connectivity with plans for an additional terminal building and runway extension. The government aims to position Madurai as a key hub for tourism, trade, and industrial growth in Tamil Nadu.
