West Bengal govt. employees protest over DA arrears
Hundreds of West Bengal government employees participated in a strike called by the Angrami Joutho Mancha, a rights group, demanding payment of dearness allowance (DA) dues. The protest followed a Supreme Court order to pay 25% of outstanding DA by March 31st. Opposition parties, including the Bharatiya Janta Party and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), supported the strike. While some government employees unions claimed the strike was unsuccessful, others reported high attendance at offices and alleged harassment from authorities. The TMC government refuted claims of a successful strike and accused certain factions of the BJP and Left Front of orchestrating it.
