Mobilisation for a column on denotified tribes in Census forms picks up pace

Denotified, nomadic, and semi-nomadic tribes (DNTs) in north India have formed a Central Joint Action Committee of Denotified, Nomadic, and Semi-nomadic Tribes (CJAC-DNT) to advocate for their inclusion in the upcoming 2027 Census. The CJAC-DNT is demanding a separate column for DNTs in the census forms, Constitutional recognition, and other rights. Community leaders across the country have written letters to various government officials, including the President, Prime Minister, Registrar General of India, and the Chief Justice of India, expressing their demand for these changes.
