₹500 crore for suburban rail, 41 km of metro line to be operational in 2026-27, says Chief Minister
Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a ₹500 crore allocation for the long-delayed Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP) in the state budget, adding to the previously allocated ₹500 crore from the Union government. KRIDE, the company overseeing the project, stated that land acquisition for Corridor-2 is complete and construction is underway. However, activists criticized the allocation as insufficient and urged prioritization of the crucial Corridor-1, which connects KSR Bengaluru City to Devanahalli via Yelahanka. Despite this, Siddaramaiah also announced plans for a 41 km expansion of the city's metro network by 2026, including the Pink and Blue lines.
