Meenambal Sivaraj: a trailblazer for Dalit rights and women empowerment

Meenambal Sivaraj, a pioneering figure in the fight for the rights of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and women's empowerment, dedicated her life to social reform. Born in Burma to a prominent SC family, she became fluent in multiple languages and graduated from Rangoon College of Fine Arts. She married an activist, Sivaraj, who influenced her own political activism. A key figure in the Self-Respect Movement and the All India Scheduled Castes Federation (AISCF), Meenambal advocated for greater rights and opportunities for SCs, becoming the first Dalit woman to join the AISCF. She also served as a magistrate and member of various boards. After her husband's death in 1964, she continued her work in social reform until her passing in 1992 at age 88.
