Three suspended Congress MLAs join BJP ahead of Assembly elections in Assam

Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Basanta Das, and Sashi Kanta Das, three suspended Assam Congress MLAs, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday. The move is expected to impact the upcoming Assembly elections as it follows former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah's recent switch to the ruling party. Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State, stated that the BJP welcomes leaders from other parties, including the Congress, and their support for the party's ideology. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) released a list of 42 candidates on Tuesday, but Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Chief Minister, criticized it as a "dynastic list" while emphasizing the BJP's focus on grassroots workers.
