Return Social Science textbook, delete online posts, NCERT tells public

The National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) issued an advisory on Friday, February 27, 2026, asking individuals and organizations to return the controversial textbook and delete related social media posts following a Supreme Court order banning it. The Supreme Court registered a suo motu case on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, regarding a section in the Class 8 textbook titled "Role of Judiciary in Our Society" that discussed "corruption" in the judiciary. The court directed officials to seize copies already distributed or sold and ordered the NCERT to withdraw the book. The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed regret and stated that action would be taken against those responsible for the error.
