Calcutta HC sets up committee to shift urgent matters to other courts, focus on final touches to SIR

Chief Justice Sujoy Paul of the Calcutta High Court has formed a committee to oversee the shifting of urgent matters to alternative courts due to judicial officers being assigned to complete the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal. The order from the Supreme Court, issued on February 20, directed judicial officers to complete the SIR and for the Election Commission of India (EC) to publish the processed list of electoral rolls by February 28th. The committee comprises Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Arijit Banerjee, Registrar General Nabanita Ray, Registrar (judicial service) Raju Mukherjee, and Joint Registrar-cum-Secretary to the Chief Justice Ajay Kumar Das. The Supreme Court also directed that the State government work with the EC to ensure a timely completion of the SIR process.
