T.N. Assembly: State government withdraws contentious Private Universities (Amendment) Bill

The State government withdrew the contentious Tamil Nadu Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which had been passed by the House last year. The bill aimed to reduce the minimum land requirement for establishing private universities but was met with opposition from various parties. Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhiaan stated that the government would withdraw and review it. The Assembly also approved the Tamil Nadu Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill and the Tamil Nadu Fiscal Responsibility (Amendment) Bill.
