Better for Congress to remain in DMK-led front for its own sake, says CPI(M) State secretary

P. Shanmugam, CPI(M) Tamil Nadu secretary, stated that the Congress's demand for power-sharing in Tamil Nadu is inappropriate at this time as it would be a different issue if there were to be a coalition government based on a common minimum program or manifesto. He believes that the DMK-led alliance will not need to seek power-sharing and that the Congress should focus on strengthening its own position within the alliance rather than making demands. He also noted that while actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is gaining popularity, it is unlikely to translate into significant seats in the upcoming election.
