China overhauls consumer price basket, with never-before-seen unveiling of its composition
China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) unveiled the intricate composition of its consumer price index (CPI) basket, with a significant shift in weighting towards services and new consumption goods. The recalibration reduces the weight of food and housing to 17.2% and 22.1%, respectively, while increasing the weight of transport and communications, education, culture and entertainment, and healthcare.
