18,791 government schools in Karnataka have no land records

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) is proposing a new bill to register the properties of government schools in Karnataka, as 18,791 schools lack land records. School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa stated that this issue has been ongoing for years, with many schools lacking revenue documents and facing encroachment issues. Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with collecting these records, but only 25,339 primary and 3,437 high schools have been registered in the name of the DSEL. The State president of the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) has called for urgent action to address the issue.
