Budget 2026: Government proposes integrated programme to boost textile sector
The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an integrated program to boost growth in the labor-intensive textile sector, including a 'National Fibre Scheme', 'Textile Expansion and Employment Scheme', and a 'Tex-Eco Initiative'. The government also proposed setting up mega textile parks and launching the Mahatma Gandhi Gram Swaraj initiative to support khadi, handloom, and handicrafts. The Centre will extend the export time period for leather or textile garments, leather or synthetic footwear, and other leather products from six months to one year.
