
Budget 2026: Individuals residing outside India will be permitted to invest in listed companies, FM Sitharaman announces
Nirmala Sitharaman, India's Finance Minister, proposed changes to the Union Budget 2026, including allowing PROIs (persons residing outside India) to invest in listed Indian companies through a portfolio investment scheme with an increased investment limit from 5% to 10%. The government also plans to develop infrastructure in cities with over 5 lakh population and will continue to focus on corporate bond indices. This is the first time the budget has been presented on a Sunday.
