Eight from Karnataka to be honoured with Padma awards
Shatavadhani R. Ganesh, a Kannada writer and artist, received the Padma Bhushan for his work reviving the avadhana art form. Three other Karnataka residents were recognized as "unsung heroes" on the list of Padma awardees: Anke Gowda M., who runs the Pustaka Mane library in Mandya district; Suresh Hanagavadi, a medical college professor and founder of the Karnataka Haemophilia Society; and S.G. Susheelamma, a social activist and founder of Sumangali Seva Ashrama. Prabhakar B. Kore, former chairman of the KLE Society, was also recognized for his work in education. Shubha Venkatesha Iyengar, a former scientist at the National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL), received recognition for her contributions to aviation weather monitoring systems.
