Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev criticized the Election Commission of India for the hurried implementation of a special revision (SR) of electoral rolls in Assam, warning it could lead to wrongful deletions and voter disenfranchisement. Dev urged the EC to extend the deadline for hearings and disposal by seven days to ensure fair opportunities for individuals to defend their voting rights. She cited concerns about Form 7 objections filed in bulk, alleging many complainants are untraceable or have denied filing them. Dev also emphasized that the exclusion of 19.06 lakh people from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) should not be reflected in the voter list and that the Supreme Court has previously cautioned against regressive measures until the final NRC list is notified.
