Manipur government restoration: Biren Singh, Amit Shah discuss creating a ‘conducive environment’

N. Biren Singh, former Chief Minister of Manipur, met with Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, in Delhi on Friday (January 16, 2026), to discuss restoring a popular government in the state. The meeting focused on "conducive environment" and "ironing out complexities," following previous discussions at the BJP office. A.K Mishra, Adviser, NorthEast, MHA, met with representatives of the Kuki-Zo community seeking their cooperation in restoring the popular government. The Kuki-Zo community has demanded an extension of President's Rule and expressed willingness to join the government if the Central and State governments commit to supporting a negotiated political settlement for a Union Territory with legislature.
