SAD flags threat to Majithia's life inside jail, seeks Punjab Governor's intervention
Alleged threat to a political leader's life inside jail raises concerns about safety and justice.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) met with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Friday, alleging that the state government had failed to adequately protect jailed party leader Bikram Singh Majithia despite intelligence reports of a threat to his life. The SAD delegation presented a representation highlighting what they described as "grave threats" and violations of Majithia's rights, including alleged attempts to install cameras in his cell for surveillance purposes. They also raised concerns about the Punjab Kesari newspaper group being subjected to raids by enforcement authorities, accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of muzzling the press. The SAD urged the Governor to intervene and protect both Majithia's life and freedom of the press.
