Assam Opposition parties lodge police complaint against BJP for ‘poll roll manipulation’

Five opposition parties in Assam, including the Congress and Raijor Dal, filed a police complaint accusing the ruling BJP of a conspiracy to delete names of genuine voters from electoral rolls. The complaint alleges that Dilip Saikia, the Assam BJP president, is spearheading this effort through party MLAs, who have been instructed to remove names of anti-BJP voters in specific constituencies. The opposition parties urged the police to investigate and book those responsible for the alleged conspiracy. They also requested a high-level probe by the Election Commission into the January 4 online meeting where the deletion plan was allegedly discussed. The BJP denied the allegations, claiming that the opposition is using this as a smear campaign against the party and its president.
