Nepal tragedy sparks political clash in Tamil Nadu Assembly over rescue efforts

On Thursday, the Tamil Nadu Assembly saw a political dispute between the ruling TVK government and opposition DMK over handling of the Nepal tragedy leaving more than 80 people unaccounted for. Minister Raj Mohan tried to speak first but was objected by DMK members who questioned the decision. Speaker JCD Prabhakar initially cited a precedent but later allowed the opposition's motions, leading Raj Mohan to withdraw and allow them to raise issues first. Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin sought clarity on affected pilgrims and rescue efforts while Raj Mohan detailed government actions, confirming 20 safe pilgrims and ongoing searches for others. Families remained anxious over those still missing.
