
Himachal government initiates probe into Dharamshala college girl’s death; assistant professor suspended
Alleged ragging and sexual harassment leading to a student's death raises serious concerns.
Himachal Pradesh government suspended an assistant professor of a government college in Dharamshala, Ashok Kumar, pending an inquiry into the death of a 19-year-old Dalit student. The student died in December 2025 after allegedly being subjected to ragging and sexual harassment by students and faculty members, according to the victim's father. The state government formed a four-member committee led by Harish Kumar, Additional Director of Higher Education, to investigate the incident.
