Kerala SIR: EC yet to resolve ‘Place of Birth’ issue in Form 6A, allege political parties
Political parties in Kerala protested the Election Commission of India’s (EC) delay in resolving issues related to overseas citizens' enrollment under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral roll. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and its MP, Haris Beeran, have raised concerns about the mandatory 'Place of Birth' field on Form 6A being limited to Indian States, hindering overseas electors from accurately completing applications. The IUML estimates that over 5.5 lakh Keralites are affected by this issue, with only 70,000 applying so far. The Chief Electoral Officer assured the parties that the matter is being addressed by the EC.
