Congress leadership has asked the president and vice president of Mattathur grama panchayat to step down following an embarrassing incident where eight Congress members joined hands with the BJP to keep the Left Democratic Front out of power. While the vice president, Noorjahan Navas, agreed to resign, the president, Tessi Jose Kallarakkal, has not yet made a decision. Congress leader Roji M. John stated that the party will move a no-confidence motion against her if she does not step down, but this can only happen after six months according to rules.
