Andhra CM N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurates 1.19 lakh acre irrigation project after 30-year wait
On August 22, N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, announced the inauguration of Phase-I of Veligonda project on August 31, which will irrigate up to 1.19 lakh acres and provide drinking water for about four lakh people in Prakasam, Nellore, Kadapa, and Markapuram districts. He also released a ₹250 crore cheque towards compensation for displaced families and noted the project's completion after 30 years since its foundation was laid in 1996 by him. The CM highlighted the need for judicious water use due to El Nino-induced rainfall deficit, emphasizing future plans like Polavaram project and river linking initiatives to address water scarcity issues.
