Assembly clears Bill on road safety tax
The Telangana State Government passed an amendment to the Telangana Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, introducing a road safety tax on new vehicles. The tax, ranging from ₹2,000 for two-wheelers to ₹10,000 for heavy vehicles, will be used to fund road safety measures and collected in a special account. The amendment replaces quarterly taxes on goods/transport vehicles with life tax at 7.5% of the vehicle cost. The State Government also approved the establishment of two private universities: Amity University at Mamidipalli and St. Mary’s Rehabilitation University at Deshmukhi.
