Congress Hits Back at BJP Over "Anti-Dalit" Protests, Blocks Resolution
On Tuesday, Congress launched a counter-attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing it of being “anti-Dalit” for refusing to suspend protests in Karnataka’s Assembly. This prevented the adoption of an unanimous resolution condemning a “purification” ceremony conducted in Uttarakhand after AICC president and Dalit leader Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a rally there. Congress members Sharat Bachhe Gowda and N.T. Srinivas termed the ritual a heinous crime, while BJP accused the government of protecting Minister B. Nagendra, who faces charges of misusing funds meant for Scheduled Tribes welfare.
