Priority to welfare measures, continuation of ongoing schemes: Varkala municipal chief

Geetha Hemachandran, the new chairperson of the Varkala municipality, has prioritized ensuring continuity for projects and initiatives from the previous LDF council. She highlighted the need to address staff shortages and improve waste management while also aiming to protect the region's cliffs. Ms. Hemachandran, a CPI(M) member, expressed hope for "step-by-step improvement" in protecting the Varkala cliffs, which are heavily impacted by private holdings. She also emphasized that the municipality will benefit from the AMRUT scheme for drinking water supply.
