On Monday, the Karnataka Legislative Council passed a resolution condemning the ritual “purification” of a stage used by Congress president M. Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. F.H. Jakkannanavar, a Congress member, moved the resolution amid demands for Minister B. Nagendra’s resignation and accusations that the BJP insulted Mr. Kharge, a Dalit. The resolution was passed on a voice vote despite opposition protests.
