On Monday, Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj party, took oath as Bankipur MLA at the Bihar Legislative Assembly in front of Speaker Prem Kumar. He won the August 3 bypoll with 64,151 votes, defeating BJP's Neeraj Kumar by 19,324 votes, marking his electoral debut and ending BJP’s 1995 hold on the seat following Nitin Nabin's elevation to Rajya Sabha.
