BJP launches nationwide campaign against Kerala for omitting Vande Mataram
On Monday, M.T. Ramesh, general secretary of the BJP in Keralam, announced a nationwide campaign against the V.D. Satheesan-led government for its "anti-national" stance on omitting Vande Mataram from Independence Day celebrations, allegedly under pressure from religious groups. The BJP plans legal action as the act violates Parliament legislation requiring both national songs at official functions. Only Tamil Nadu and Keralam omitted Vande Mataram this year. Ramesh accused Satheesan of steering Kerala away from the national stream to please IUML, causing apprehensions about past divisions.
