On Sunday, Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Binoy Viswam spoke against describing communist unity as a merger at an event in Thrissur. He praised the legacy of former Kerala Chief Minister C. Achutha Menon and criticized suggestions to display Prime Minister Narendra Modi's picture under housing projects. Viswam also alleged an undeclared Emergency in Kerala, targeting Congress leader V.D. Satheesan. No change in CPI’s stand was noted regarding its role within the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
