The U.S. government and Utah businessman Dean Brimhall resolved a long-standing dispute over commercial development inside Capitol Reef National Monument with a federal buyout worth $400,000 in 2023. The deal ended Brimhall's petrol station, tourist lodge, and quarry operations along State Route 24 near the park boundary since 1964.
