On August 13, S. Niranjan Reddy, leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former agriculture minister, accused the Congress government in Hyderabad of halting the Rythu Bima scheme by failing to pay premiums by August 15. He claimed that 21,099 farmers' families had benefited from ₹5,909.85 crore in claims at ₹5 lakh per insured farmer who died. This move is seen as retaliation against former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
