Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Marie Wilson Details Revenue Boost Plans
In the Assembly on Wednesday, Marie Wilson, Finance Minister, stated that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay aimed to avoid excessive borrowing and proposed measures like auctioning fancy vehicle numbers and increasing liquor fees to boost revenue from ₹2,26,870 crore to ₹2,41,870 crore. She allocated funds for various schemes including the VB-G RAM G scheme (₹12,643 crore), farm loan waiver (₹5,932 crore), and no-cost electricity (₹1,545 crore). Former Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu questioned the actual capital expenditure versus budget allocations. Wilson highlighted that Tamil Nadu's debt-to-GSDP ratio had improved from 28% to 27%, aiming for a $1.5 trillion economy. Meanwhile, R. Vinoth, Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister, announced a Kuruvai package of ₹134.
