BJP ups the ante on Kogilu Layout demolition, DKS goes into defense mode
Siddaramaiah, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, announced that those who lost their homes in the Kogilu Layout demolition drive would be allotted alternative flats nearby. The BJP opposed this move, demanding a halt to the allotment until the antecedents of residents are investigated. The Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, R. Ashok, criticized the decision as rewarding encroachers and land mafia with housing meant for the poor. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that no one would be "gifting anything" to encroachers but promised alternative housing through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Scheme. Officials from the Karnataka Housing Department conducted a survey of residents in Fakir Colony and Waseem Colony, collecting documents to determine eligibility for alternative housing.
