Mizoram CM Lalduhoma says state provides shelter to 40,000 dislocated people
Lalduhoma, Chief Minister of Mizoram and head of the Zoram People’s Movement, stated on October 14, 2026, that Mizoram provides shelter to 40,000 dislocated people from Bangladesh, Manipur, and Myanmar. Lalnghinglova Hmar, Mizoram Tourism Minister, told NDTV on Tuesday that tourist arrivals rose since the railway line to Aizawl opened last September. The government is providing grants of Rs 5 lakh each to 199 families for homestays. Mizoram aims to become a winter and Christmas destination starting December 15, offering an alternative to Goa, Pattaya, and Bali.

Doctors save passenger with 40 per cent oxygen desaturation on Delhi-Aizawl flight
A passenger with chronic kidney disease suffered severe oxygen desaturation to 40 per cent on a Delhi-Aizawl flight. Dr Willie Lalhruaitluanga, Dr F Remthangpuii, and Dr Benjamin Khiangte provided emergency care, administering steroids to raise levels to 90 per cent. After landing at Lengpui Airport, the patient was intubated and moved to LRM Hospital. The patient is now stable.
3 Central government media officials die, 2 injured in vehicle plunge near Aizawl
On October 1, 2026, three Central government media officials died and two were injured when their vehicle plunged into a gorge near Sataek village, 30 km south of Aizawl. The deceased included Engam Pame, Nampibou Marinmai, and H. Lianvela. They were returning from an event in Sialsuk village. Three government media officials, Dr Engam Pame, Nampibou Marinmai, and H Lianvela, were killed Thursday after their vehicle plunged down a slope near Sateek, Mizoram. Two others were injured in the crash while returning from Sialsuk. Mizoram Governor General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh and the Ministry of Defence condoled the deaths. Sialsuk Police and the Young Mizo Association (YMA) assisted rescue efforts.
Army Man, Returning Home On Vacation, Beaten To Death In Mizoram Road Rage
On September 20, Zakaria Lalhriattluanga, a 29-year-old Army man on vacation, was allegedly beaten to death in Mizoram's Kolasib during a road rage incident. Travelling with friend John Laltanpuia, they got into a dispute over poor road conditions and were attacked by a group of youths returning from a picnic. Eight people, including minors, were arrested. Zakaria died at the scene while John sustained minor injuries.
Mizoram's Electoral Rolls Revise: 78,442 Names Off, 39,243 On, Net Gain 6,963 Voters
On September 7, 2026, Garima Gupta, Mizoram's Chief Electoral Officer, announced that the State's electoral rolls were revised during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. This resulted in deleting 78,442 names and adding 39,243 new electors, bringing the total voter count to 8.35 lakh, including the first third gender elector. The SIR began on May 20 across all districts and ended with a net increase of 6,963 voters or 0.84%. Aizawl district has the highest number of voters at 2.78 lakh, while Hnahthial district has the least at 15,522.
Landslide Disrupts Train Services Between Hailakandi and Bairabi
Heavy rainfall triggered a landslide along the railway track in Assam's Hailakandi district, disrupting train services to Mizoram's Bairabi on Thursday evening. Soil erosion affected nearly 50 metres of track between Jamira and Bairabi. Train movement was suspended as a precautionary measure; repair work began immediately with necessary equipment and workers sent to the site. The Silchar-Bairabi passenger train terminated at Jamira, while alternative road transportation was arranged for passengers. Services of several trains were cancelled, including the Guwahati-Sairang between Hailakandi and Sairang.
