Congress leader set to take over as Legislative Council Chair, ending Horatti's tenure
On August 7, Basavaraj Horatti, Karnataka Legislative Council Chairperson, submitted his resignation to make way for Congress leader Saleem Ahmed, who is expected to be officially appointed on August 14. Talks led by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar persuaded Mr. Horatti to resign voluntarily to avoid a no-confidence motion. Congress now holds a majority in the 75-member Council. Mr. Horatti will continue as pro-tem Speaker until his formal resignation on August 14, after which Saleem Ahmed will take over.
